|BSkyB is planning to launch an online casino after winning an interactive gaming licence from the Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC).|
It is planning to unveil the offshore web casino using its Sky Bet brand in the new-year. According to Sky Betís managing director Nick Rust, the company is looking at third party companies to work alongside for services. Online casino developer WagerWorks will provide the gaming software.
'Our intention is to operate an online casino on the internet only from Alderney. We are looking to build on our growing sports and entertainment services by adding an online casino to our portfolio of products,' he said.
Previously known as Surrey Sports, the company is now trading under the Sky Bet brand for its web and interactive TV business. Its telephone betting arm still retains the Surrey Sports name.
BSkyB has been awarded the fourth interactive gaming licence issued by the AGCC this year. In April, the first licences were given to Littlewoods Leisure, WagerWorks and Ritz Interactive, the new-media subsidiary of The Ritz Club based in The Ritz hotel in London.
Alderney, the third largest of the Channel Islands, is an offshore base for investment, e-commerce, interactive gaming and e-betting. According to the AGCC, several more applications for online gaming and electronic gambling licences are being processed.
