Board Nixes Multi-Picks
By Earl
The Thoroughbred Times reports that the Illinois Racing Board has “temporarily suspended” live and simulated broadcast betting on some multirace wagers, including the very popular pick-four and pick-six bets, after a New York federal court ordered the arrest, subsequently successful, of three former Drexel University fraternity brothers who allegedly “...electronically manipulated the Breeders' Cup Ultra Pick Six on October 26 at Arlington Park and a pick four at Balmoral Park in suburban Chicago.” The three scooped up more than $3,000,000 during their reunion in a phone-computer scam. (Please see related story, “Pick-Six 3 Nicked.”)

The Board has given assurances that Pick-Four through Pick-Nine accumulator bets will be back on offer once “security measures are in place to safeguard [their] integrity ...” The Board also said that any carry-over pools involving these types of bets will be held over.
