|The government of the Isle of Man has been so impressed with the quality of the companies applying for online gaming licenses that they may issue additional licenses to deserving companies. |
Julian C. Lalor-Smith, the Administrator of the Administration, Legislation and Gambling section of the Department of Home Affairs for the Isle of Man said, “The quality of companies that are applying is such that we’re looking seriously at additional licenses.” He also said, “We are very impressed by the types of companies that have applied.”
11 companies have applied for the original three licenses, including MGM Mirage, the Vegas based casino group, and reportedly several other large American companies. The successful applicants will probably be announced in early September, and Lalor-Smith estimates any discussion of additional licenses taking place around October.
Background checks are currently underway on all the applicants, including investigations into their legal and financial affairs, there will also be checks on the software and security of the sites that are accepted.
“We want to make sure that we get this business right from day one.” Said Lalor-Smith.
