|A hospital security guard stole a winning $5,000 Win 4 ticket from a dead patient. Unfortunately, for the guard, a nurses’ aide at the same hospital had already discovered the ticket and informed the man’s bereaved relatives.|
Michael Walsh was driving along Route 17M on Monday to cash in his winnings. But, like a scene out of a film, the Wurtsboro Hills man suffered a heart attack behind the wheel in the Town of Wallkill. He was taken to the Horton campus of Orange Regional Medical Center and later declared dead.
Sara Sanchez, the nurses' aide who discovered the ticket stashed away in Mr Walsh’s glasses case, turned the possessions over to hospital security to be inventoried.
Security guard, Damien I. Santana, handled things. Late Thursday, city detectives arrested Santana, 25, and accused him of stealing the dead man's winnings. They charged Santana with grand larceny, a felony.
The allegations that Santana had robbed a man entrusted to a hospital's care shocked Santana's co-workers and disgusted city cops.
