Turkeys all round
By staff
When retired Colorado State Patrol Capt. Mike Karavolas learned Monday morning he won a $100,000 Powerball prize, he immediately went out and bought 1,000 pounds of turkey to feed down-and-out folks at the Denver Rescue Mission.

Karavolas used a large pickup to haul the turkeys to the mission near downtown at Lawrence Street and Park Avenue West, the Denver Post reports.

Mission officials aren't sure how many turkeys Karavolas dropped off, but figure 1,000 pounds of turkey will feed about 500 people.

The mission served Christmas Eve dinner at 11 am, noon, 1 and 2 p.m. and handed out food boxes.
