|Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is considering taking legal action to in effect force the National Football League to allow the broadcast of commercials for the Vegas gambling industry during the Super Bowl, January 26. The NFL has rejected that idea and “accused local tourism officials of drumming up a controversy to attract attention to their new marketing campaign,” Jones wrote. NFL sources also reportedly stated that the league has had a “long-standing policy to distance itself from gaming-related ads.”|
Leading the convention authority, Mayor Oscar Goodman said they now want to challenge that stance in court. Reportedly very angry, Mayor Goodman asked the authority’s lawyers to look at suing the NFL. The mayor is an experienced defense attorney and cited the right to commercial speech could be found to be infringed by the NFL position.
