Supreme Court to Rule on Casino Ban
By Earl
A Louisiana law which bans the casino gaming industry from making contributions to political campaigns will be reviewed by the U.S. Supreme Court. The Casino Association of Louisiana has asked the Court to take up a challenge it has made to the law in the Louisiana State Supreme Court, which ruled last year the state law, “banning riverboat and land-based casino interests from making contributions to political campaigns,” was constitutional.

The association is hopeful. However, the state supreme court reportedly “relied on prior U.S. Supreme Court rulings in similar cases to conclude no violation of constitutional guarantees of freedom of speech or association existed as the state tried to guard against corruption or the appearance of it,” the Advocate report states.
