|Police in Egypt working on the murder of high roller Nabil Mohamed Etman have revealed the grim truth of his final hours. Dead for months police finally report they believe the export-import tycoon was tortured for nearly 24 hours.|
After collecting a R190 000 gambling debt police think Etman was abducted by a gang that took him to a soccer club. There the gang of three men allegedly tortured him for several hours burning him with cigarettes, inflicting deep gashes, and then beating him around the head until finally strangling him to death. Beating to the head was so severe that had he not been strangled he would have died anyway.
Etman was a compulsive gambler who would frequent a local casino in Cape Town for up to 24 hours at a time. The VIP casino memberís favourite game was high stakes blackjack. He was well known to the casino and had made many friends there with other professional gamblers.
Inspector Marshell Jaftha, Investigating Officer, suspects that the motive behind the grisly crime was to gain access to Etmanís vast wealth. Savvy enough to have left both contact number and address of the friend he was to collect his gambling debt from this did little to help him. His car was found close to his home a day before his body that was discovered by tourists on the Ou Kaapse Weg road.
A man seen in Etmanís car at the sports club was reportedly seen by witnesses driving the vehicle believed to have been used to transport the body. Police are calling for a Riaz Ebrahim to help further the investigation. Inspector Jaftha: ďHe has been seen driving a royal blue Volkswagen Polo Playa. If members of the public come across Ebrahim, they are advised to contact the police immediately.'
