|Long running TV game show “Wheel of Fortune” is to be sponsored by Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. One of the largest casino companies in the US, Harrah has made a deal with Sony Pictures to sponsor the famous show.|
According to Rich Mirman, Harrah’s chief marketing officer, the agreement will initially last for duration of six months. Tied in with the deal Harrah have got themselves a twenty second commercial slot with the show that will feature happy punters at Harrah casinos winning slot machines.
For added publicity the casino company will be sponsoring the “Wheel of Fortune” $100,000 bonus round. As if that won’t get the casinos enough media coverage Harrah also intends to tour the US with a Winnebago covered in Harrah’s logo. The Winnebago will primarily be visiting Harrah’s chain of casinos from where it will select contestants for the game show. Fans of the show should get themselves down to their local Harrah casino for details of the tour.
The sponsorship deal is considered a very bold move made by Harrah. Casinos rarely seek TV promotions as in the past TV shows have been criticised for advertising something traditionally seen as a vice. However the growing spread of casinos across the states seems to be changing all that. Harrah appear to be the first to start taking full advantage of mainstream media publicity. In fact they’ve even hired the William Morris Agency to help make further PR moves. Let’s just hope they got the timing right and all this publicity doesn’t backfire.
