|The International Gaming Industry Poverty Relief Project (IGIPRP) is the online gaming industry’s new coalition aimed at deleting global poverty. Its vision, which is defined as “one in which a united, healthy, secure, and growing international gaming industry provides funds to measurably relieve world poverty” will look to borrow traditional gaming’s social responsibility codes and bring them online. Traditional – offline gaming usually offers a portion of its profits to directly benefit recognized charities and charitable causes, and in many cases, as in lotteries, substantially finances social initiatives. |
According to Paul Lavers of Covers.com:
'Gambling has always been a way of funding social causes, from bingo money for food banks to casinos for community services to lotteries for health and education spending. Many of the folks in the online gaming industry have felt that there should be some way for gambling at this scale - it's really a global activity - to help a global cause.'
