|West Paterson, NJ, April 10, 2003 – Interactive Systems Worldwide Inc. (NASDAQ SmallCap-ISWI) announced today that its wholly owned subsidiary, Global Interactive Gaming Ltd (GIG), has concluded an agreement with Sky Bet (registered company name Hestview Limited). Under the agreement, GIG and Sky Bet will launch ISWI’s patented SportXction™ wagering software on BSkyB’s digital television platform, a potential market of 6.6 million households, in August of this year.|
ISWI’s SportXction™ wagering application will be made available, through Sky Bet’s “Sky Bet Live” product offering, to all digital subscribers of BSkyB’s Sky Sports 1 channel. This premium channel televises live games from the World’s top soccer league, the Barclaycard Premiership. The “Sky Bet Live” product provides viewers watching live Barclaycard Premiership games with dedicated information on in-run wagering (wagering during the course of a sporting event), including a specific wagering-related commentary and the ability to place wagers interactively using their remote control. The betting propositions that are available, which change frequently throughout the course of the sporting contest to reflect specific game circumstances, are shown on the bottom of the viewing screen. The SportXction™ application will be launched in August when the next season of the Barclaycard Premier League commences.
An additional and simultaneous implementation of the SportXction™ application will be made available to Sky Bet customers for other sporting content on BSkyB digital channels, enabling viewers to wager on additional sports. Already GIG has developed cricket and golf versions of SportXction™ with other sports, including tennis and rugby, planned to follow during the summer and later this year.
In addition to being the UK’s largest digital TV supplier, BSkyB is also one of the UK’s leading sports rights holders and is at the forefront of developing innovative interactive applications, making a relationship between Sky Bet and GIG a natural partnership.
The agreement between GIG and Sky Bet is a twelve-month trial on the basis of shared betting revenue (with either party having the right to terminate the agreement six months after launch). Global Interactive Gaming will bear the cost of operating the service from its technically advanced broadcast suites in central London, while Sky Bet will be responsible for a comprehensive marketing program for the new service as an integral part of the promotion of its Sky Bet Live service. Both companies will share the effort of technical integration with plans for launch in August 2003 already well advanced.
ISWI and its London-based subsidiary, GIG, are extremely pleased to have concluded this deal which will marry together their interactive wagering product with the live coverage of the relevant sport event on TV screens across the UK, a product usage regarded by many analysts as the most compelling implementation of the SportXction™ application. Customers will be able to enjoy this offering on a dedicated interactive channel from the comfort of their own living room, utilizing the remote control to play SportXction while betting-specific commentary accompanies the games.
ISWI and GIG Chairman Barry Mindes commented, “We are extremely pleased to have formalized this agreement, which will now allow Sky Bet to offer Sky Digital consumers the opportunity to wager play-by-play on their favorite sporting events in real-time. Our goal has always been to provide an exciting fun-to-play game in which users are placing small wagers in order to increase their interaction and enjoyment of live sports events. This agreement represents a massive step toward that business goal. Sky Bet is the biggest player we could have partnered with in the UK interactive TV betting market and we believe that by teaming up together, we will set a new standard in interactive gaming, not just in the UK, but around the world.”
In preparation for launching with Sky Bet in August, the ISWI technical development team have brought forward their plans to introduce a new version of SportXction™ which enables users to bet on any one or more of a wide range of outcomes for individual bets. This “multi-sided” version of the product will replace the two-sided version currently implemented and allows bets with a range of different outcomes (such as the name of the next player to score in a soccer match) to be offered, a style of betting which is esteemed in the UK sports wagering market, as well as in other venues. This development effort represents both a significant technical and theoretical achievement and is a real enhancement of the SportXction™ product. The “multi-sided” version of SportXction™ will be implemented during the course of summer 2003 with existing commercial partners and will be the version of the product to be launched with Sky Bet in August of this year.
