|Rep. John Schlichter, who voted in support of a plan to put slot machines in Ohio racetracks has backed off his gambling support position and repositioned himself as a supporter of the budget as a whole rather than a support of games of chance. |
It is surprising that Rep. Schlichter voted in favor of the bill at all, as he had been a vocal opponent to gambling through out his career.
As the Ohio media plays this story up as one of Rep. Schlichter’s hypocrisy, any intelligent person should see the wider hypocrisy in the fact that the vote was to add gambling to a place of gambling. Is there a difference between horse betting and slot betting? Of course. Does it make a difference to compulsive gamblers or those that you are trying to protect by limiting the expansion of gambling? Of course NOT.
