IGGBA Welcomes Government Policy Paper on Remote Gambling
By staff
The Interactive Gambling, Gaming and Betting Association (iGGBA) today welcomed the publication of the Government’s paper ‘Future Regulation of Remote Gambling’ which sets out public policy relating to the remote gambling industry.

iGGBA, which has worked closely with the Department of Culture, Media and Sport over the past twelve months, expressed support for the Government’s continuing commitment to create a regulatory environment in the UK which will enable a successful UK remote gambling and gaming industry to develop. The policy paper sets out clear objectives which will underpin the forthcoming Gambling Bill and subsequent regulations, including social policy requirements. However, iGGBA is anxious for the Government to provide more detail on the likely future regulatory regime for the industry, so that member companies can plan their investment priorities as early as possible. This is vital if the UK industry is to establish its position as a world leader in remote gaming and gambling.

Commenting on the publication, Andrew Tottenham, Chair of iGGBA said: “The publication of the policy guidelines provides further, welcome evidence of the Government’s commitment to provide a regulatory framework within which the industry in the UK can develop under the law. iGGBA is committed to working closely with DCMS to ensure that proposed regulations – especially in areas of social responsibility, such as under-age gambling – is informed, through iGGBA, by the first-hand knowledge of operators. There is a huge commercial opportunity to be developed in the UK and the industry looks forward to working closely with the Government in realising this.”

iGGBA will be working closely with the Government and Parliament as the legislative process associated with the proposed Gambling Bill unfolds.
