Oregon tourists take to gambling in a big way
By darren
According to the Oregon tourist commission, the State of Oregon’s number one tourist attraction was a casino. According to figures that were recently released, visitor numbers at The Spirit Mountain Casino were as high as 3.3 million people in 2002.

This was good news for business in general and saw the increase in gambling dictate the need and increase of staff. During the memorial weekend, the casino needed 700 employees to handle the weekend crowd. The adjoining hotel was fully booked and 3,298 people passed through the buffet line and many more ate at the restaurant.

The casino chief executive is Toby Teneyck and he was quick to note that, 'We have a lot of people who don't gamble. They just come for the meal.' The Oregon tourist attraction that finished second was Multnomah Falls with 2.5 million visitors. In third place was Crater Lake National Park with 506,219 sightseers. It seems like people want to come to Oregon and gamble.
