Must resist bad ‘Funny Cide’ pun…
By staff
Post positions were drawn today for the Belmont Stakes race, with Triple Crown challenger Funny Cide breaking from No. 4 and the New York-bred gelding being installed as the morning-line, even-money favorite. Empire Maker, who was the pre-Kentucky Derby favorite to challenge for the Triple Crown, starts with 6-5 odds. Post time for the smallest field since 1994 — when Tabasco Cat beat five other horses — is 3:38 pm. The Belmont is shaping up as three-horse race with Dynever, who drew post No. 5, given 5-1 odds. The rest of the field includes 10-1 shot Ten Most Wanted, who drew No. 6 and is trained by Wallace Dollase; D. Wayne Lukas' 20-1 Scrimshaw, who will break from No. 3; and 50-1 Supervisor, trained by Linda Rice and breaking from No. 2.

Funny Cide is the first Belmont favorite since Real Quiet in 1997 to receive odds of even-money or better. Betting is available online at tvgnetwork.com.
