Hong Kong Wants to Play
By dave
According to a University of Hong Kong survey, residents bet a total of $3.2 billion a year – and most want to play even more.

While casinos are illegal in the territory, tens of thousands travel to Macau to gamble, with offshore soccer betting another favorite.

75% of respondents supported legalising soccer betting - up from 51% two years ago - with 12 percent saying they would take a punt on football matches if it was not against the law.

The results come just weeks before the government tries to push through a bill legalising football betting, which it says will put illegal operators out of business and bring in billions in new tax revenues to help remedy its’ budget deficit.

90% of residents of residents polled claimed to have had some experience of gambling.
