|Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World has warned the public about a website registered as 'suncoastlotto'. |
The real Suncoast is based in Durban, South Africa. The casino's information technology manager, Morgan Nyembezi, said a punter visiting the lotto site had been told he had won more than R15-million ($1,874,500).
'It was brought to my attention by my surveillance personnel, who had received calls from people who alleged they were supposed to have won something from Suncoast,' he said.
'Based on that, I did a follow-up and an investigation into the history of the website, with a domain name www.suncoastlotto.org, and found that there was no legitimate contact number.'
Sun Coast casino placed a took out an ad in local newspapers advising people that the website was not associated with the casino.
Nyembezi said his investigations had revealed that the site was registered in Australia using fictitious names.
'On the site, one can see that they cut and pasted from other sites, like the picture of Durban's International Convention Centre. They also have a picture of a woman standing next to a casino machine, which could've been from anywhere.
'The site claims the address is 245 Battery Beach Road. We know for a fact that there aren't 245 properties in Battery Beach Road.'
So, the advice for online Lotto players is the same as that for their casino playing counterparts: always check that the site is reputable before parting with your cash.
