The online sportsbook at SportsBettingOnline.ag has refunded all losing wagers placed on the Saturday night American collegiate gridiron football game that saw the heavily favoured University of Arkansas defeated by the University of Louisiana Monroe.
A 30-point favourite going into the game, the ‘Razorbacks’ unexpectedly fell in overtime by a score of 34 to 31 and have subsequently been knocked out of the NCAA national rankings.
“When a football team rallies from a 21-point deficit to win by three points in overtime, online sports bettors have good reason to be angry,” said Dave Johnson from SportsBettingOnline.ag.
“But, when that team is a 30-point favourite and ranked eighth in the country, sportsbettors have good reason to feel sick to their stomachs and we don’t blame them. The loss was unbelievable and to profit from it really doesn’t sit well with us. That’s why we’re refunding every single player who dropped money on Arkansas to win. It’s the right thing to do and we’d be shocked if other online sportsbooks don’t follow our lead.”
The upset by the Sun Belt Conference ‘Warhawks’ was painfully stinging for Arkansas fans as they are already experiencing a less-than-stellar year and had earlier saw head coach Bobby Petrino dismissed for failing to disclose an affair with a female employee. Johnson stated that the defeat represented the Southeastern Conference side’s biggest loss as it had been ranked as the nation’s fifth best team going into the contest but is now out of the top-25.
This is the third time in less than three months that SportsBettingOnline.ag has refunded losing sportsbettors. In June, it handed back the stakes of those who had wagered on Manny Pacquaio to overcome Timothy Bradley following a controversial split decision gave the title to the American while golf fans who had bet on Adam Scott to win The Open Championship were refunded a month later after the Australian blew a four-stroke lead on the final day.
