|Crazy plans have been brewing at the Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas. The crazy fiends have come up with a pants messing ride that will have thrill junkies flocking. At least that’s the idea.|
Currently named Project X Sky, the new ride will send punters over the edge, quite literally. Situated at the very top of the 900-foot tall Stratosphere Tower the ride tips the brave and just plain foolhardy out over the Vegas strip…and just lets them go. To splitter splatter all over the pavement. Well, alright, not really.
An eight man pod with “escape proof” seats is lifted by what is essentially just a giant teeter-totter to a 30 degree angle. Having had the opportunity to reflect on the pleasant view of the streets below the pod is released. Reaching speeds of 30 mph the punters scream their way down the side of the tower. Marvellous.
Project X Sky is planned to be fully operational by the end of the year and will add to an already glowing Stratosphere portfolio of thrill rides. The Tower already boasts the world’s first and second highest rides with their Big Shot and High Roller roller coaster. Project X will be the third highest. How nice that they’re all in the same spot.
Bill Linkenheimer, Past president of the American Coaster Enthusiasts, contains his enthusiasm: 'Having ridden the Stratosphere's Big Shot and High Roller, I have experienced firsthand how being 900 feet in the air can make these rides extraordinarily thrilling. With the ability to actually dangle riders 900 feet above the ground, Project X Sky should prove to be insane, and give roller coaster enthusiasts and thrill seekers another reason to visit the Stratosphere.'
