Buick Rainier use online games to promote new vehicle

Flipside has just released a new online entertainment suite called the Buick Rainier ‘Climb to the Summit’ Challenge. Gosh, that’s a mouthful. The suite features a range of interactive game competitions that includes Golf and Billiards.

Players test their skills in competitions to earn Rainier points that give them the chance to win smashing prizes like a Plasma TV. If you want to practice on your own you can even download the games onto a PDA and improve your skill. No excuses then when you get whipped.

Apparently the whole thing is part of a multi-format PR campaign to promote the launch of the spanking new Buick Rainier, a truck-like sport utility vehicle. Why anyone really needs such a thing is beyond me. Surely if you need to travel off-road a lot you should get yourself a proper mountain jeep. Or if that’s what it is then call a spade a spade.

Reggie Beckius, Buick's interactive manager, gives his shot at selling it: “As we bring the Buick Rainier into the marketplace, we want to show consumers how this vehicle offers the perfect blend of power and refinement to match their competitive spirit.”

Uh-huh, in English please Reggie. Still it’s interesting that the online gambling format is starting to get major interest as a promotional tool.
