|Germany will soon be getting a taste of mobile horse betting via mobile gambling software company Scaraboo’s new UMTS platform. Scaraboo’s software platform allows punters to bet via Pocket PCs and mobile phones. The UMTS platform for horse racing was developed by Scaraboo in cooperation with Bremer Rennbahn. The technology enables bet placement, transmission of live results and images to mobile devices via its Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) or live streaming via UMTS. The potential revenue of the various services of the UMTS horse racing platform alone in this segment of mobile betting is estimated at about 6 million euros ($6.7 million)per year, mostly from betting revenues and fee-based services.|
The system offers full personalization and localization of punters via location-based services (LBS) and GPS. This is important from a legal perspective, as only people physically located in a state may bet there.
Järgen Lukas, CEO of Scaraboo said: 'The UMTS horse racing platform represents a breakthrough for us. It will not only increase the general interest in horse racing but also push the development of mobile applications to new dimensions. We thank our partners Bremer Innovationsagentur, Bremer Rennbahn and Siemens Mobile Acceleration for helping us get to where we are today.'
