Poker Dumped Offshore

Uncasville, Connecticut. July 30, 2003. According to the Associated Press, the Mohegan Sun Casino will close its poker room as of September 2 and fill it with slot machines. The room held 36 tables for poker and 4 tables for other, novelty card games. The executive VP of marketing, Mitchell Etess, said the poker market was not growing enough to justify keeping the room open when Foxwood’s larger card room, with 54 poker tables and the four novelty games, was doing a steadier business. The 200 poker room employees will be offered other jobs as dealers and floor people in other parts of the casino, Etess said, according to the AP.
