|Casino operators in Las Vegas are excited at the prospects. The faster United Kingdom liberalizes its gaming regulations, the more they have to gain by setting up large casinos with unlimited slot machines early in the game.|
Though the time frame is uncertain, the U.S casinos are already partnering with UK gambling companies. Gaming analysts expect the liberalization of gaming laws in the UK to materialize in 2005, and the changes are expected to rejuvenate old gambling favourites like Blackpool and others.
The early birds include –
-Harrah's Entertainment and the London-based Gala Group June entered into an agreement to jointly develop casinos across Britain
-MGM Mirage recently announced a deal to buy a 25 percent share of Metro Casinos Ltd., a small British casino developer.
-Paradise Island resort has reportedly bought a license to open a casino in Northampton and other parts of UK.
-Sheldon Adelson, owner of The Venetian, has Casino development plans in UK
-Park Place Entertainment Corp. and Las Vegas developer Steve Wynn are soliciting joint venture deals for the UK.
The big guys would gain the most from the new gaming bill. From 2005 all new Casinos will be at least 5,000 square feet and feature at least 40 gaming tables, with unlimited slot machines, this is a huge leap in capacity since some of UK’s largest casino’s operate today at the scale.
These large operators are also likely to gain the right to operate online casinos variants of their terrestrial properties. This will make for an interesting combination of reality/virtual reality and will keep the Nevada big boys on their toes.
