|Betting via iTV (interactive TV) is proving a success, as proved by satellite broadcaster Sky TVís latest financial results, which show that Sky made more than half its total iTV revenues from betting in the last 12 months. |
£117 million ($187 million) of a total £218 million ($348 million) of interactive revenues came from Sky Bet, Sky's wholly-owned bookmaking operation.
12 million bets of Sky Betís wagers were made via the red button on the handset and 3 million over the telephone, which will please Sky as its preferred betting mechanism is iTV.
The £218 ($348 million) million figure represented an overall year-on-year increase in interactive revenues of 17% in the 12 months ending 30 June 2003. Revenues from iTV advertising were up a whopping 54%.
Interactive ARPU (average revenue per user) stood at £17 for the fourth quarter, up from £15 figure quoted at the half-year stage in February.
