|Churchill Downs Incorporated has appointed James D. gates to the post of vice president of administration at Churchill Downs. Gates will oversee the departments of finance, human resources, purchasing and information technology at the track.|
The 35-year-old Gates previously held the position of vice president of development at CDI, but his part in the company’s merger with Arlington Park and the acquisitions of Hollywood Park, Calder race Course and Ellis Park have led him to this new position at the Churchill Downs track.
“We are extremely pleased to welcome Jim Gates to the management team at Churchill Downs,” said Alex Waldrop, president of Churchill Downs. “Along with the obvious talents that have made him such a key player in CDI’s development and acquisition efforts, Jim possesses a passion for Thoroughbred racing and the history of the Kentucky Derby and this great track.”
The track, which hosts the world-famous Kentucky Derby, has been closed for two days this week in remembrance of those who died in the terrorist attack on Tuesday but is now resuming normal service after the presidents plea for businesses to continue operating.
