Even Portals Not Safe From Online Ban

Internet gambling portals may be surprised to find that they are in the ‘grey area’ of legislation proposed by the Kyl bill, the latest attempt to restrict gambling online.

The bill, which proposes to prevent online gaming by denying players access to sites where wagering is available, exempts web sites that offer ‘news reporting’ and the posting of odds. Gambling portals would have considered themselves part of that category, especially as many portals offer no gambling at their actual sites.

Gambling portals, however, are not mentioned as exempt from the bill. This seems a strange item to leave out as even many offline bettors use gambling portals for information and news on odds and events.

The communication of information, of whatever content, is still protected by the constitution and whatever action taken by the senate regarding the bill, gambling portals are unlikely to be happy with their ‘grey area’ status.
