Internet and wireless to enhance racing industry
By staff
The New York Racing Association and Youbet.com are leading the way for the thoroughbred industry by embracing Internet and wireless technology in their operations and services.

Now Equibase.com is following suit in the trend. It's become the latest major player when it launched a wireless version of its homepage Equibase.com. The new version would offers users entries, results, scratches, and other information and is developed by the Jockey Club Technology Services Inc.

Bobby Burch, president of Jockey Club Technology Services is betting on wireless. He says, 'Wireless is where it’s at. Our aim is to provide something of value to the customer. Time will tell, but we’re monitoring closely the success of Equibase wireless. We’ve done a fair amount of

homework in terms of the different technologies out there; things haven’t slowed down yet.'

NYRA has had a headstart on Equibase in the wireless arena. It has been serving webpages from Nyra.com website via a wireless platform since July 2002. NYRA website administrator Bruno Zalubil said, 'Our fans and horsemen

alike have embraced the accessibility of the information for various reasons.'

The interactive wagering company Youbet.com is offering a varied version of its homepage in a wireless format with the San Diego-based company Digital Orchid. They have developed a new service called 'Youbet Anywhere'

that will allow people the ability of wagering via cell phone or Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).
