|The Native American community of Kahnawake is set to vote on plans to open a terrestrial casino almost ten years after its decision to open an online casino. The success of its online Casino, contributing more than a $250,000 a year to the Native American community, has prompted tribal leaders to propose a vote to the tribes 5,896 voting members to consider opening a casino which would pump in additional estimated $230 million annually.|
However, what seems like an easy decision, is being met by serious opposition from tribe members who paradoxically considered terrestrial casino gambling dishonest. According to a quote from one tribe member, the opposition is trying to save the town from what he considers to be a potential disaster. “No blood money” is a quote that he used to encourage fellow tribe members to vote NO.
The vote in 2004 that decided Kahnawake would be an online gambling licensing jurisdiction was one by no more than 100 votes. It is expected that this election will be similarly close.
