Nevada Woos China

In an effort to battle falling revenue, the desert state is set to entice the burgeoning Chinese middle-classes to try their luck at the roulette tables of Vegas. Statistics show that profit for August was 10% down on the previous year, and Nevada feel officials that targeting China, where gambling has long been prohibited by Communist rulers, could be the key to their salvation. A maiden marketing tour to Beijing and Shanghai is already planned in an attempt to lure enthusiastic gamblers to America.

“When you consider the enormous population of China of 1.3 billion and you consider the rise of the middle class in this country, more and more people will be travelling,' Nevada Lieutenant Governor Lorraine Hunt told a news conference on Tuesday. 'If Nevada would only get a small percentage of that, it would be a significant amount of visitors to our state.'

Talks have begun with Chinese aviation Officials with regard to opening direct flights between China and Vegas or Reno and Nevada plans to open its first representative office in the country sometime in the near future.
