|The television channel count just got bigger. With hundreds of channels on just every interest under the sun, a new channel dedicated to gambling is expected to air by early 2004.|
Casino & Gambling TV plans to launch in 2004 and plans to target the advertising-friendly, male, 21-34 demographic. Industry estimates have put its target audience base at one million households, gradually increasing to more than twenty million homes in four years time, by 2008. More than 50 million Americans made more than 300 million visits to casinos last year says research conducted for the American Gaming Association. The new TV network aims to capture a sizeable chunk of these casino-enthusiasts.
The network, which plans to raise $75 million in operating capital by first quarter 2004, is currently negotiating carriage deals.
The new C&G network joins a growing list of gambling-themed shows, including Travel Channel's hit series on the World Poker Tour and the upcoming 'Celebrity Poker Showdown' on Bravo Channel.
The investors behind the C&G network are betting that a national interest in gambling, online and offline poker would be channelised into TV viewership.
“Our new channel will target the young male crowd, age 21 to 34, which is valuable to advertisers,” says Nickolas J. Rhodes, the network's President and CEO.
