Internet betting millionaire may rescue Leeds

Leeds is looking for an angel investor to rescue them from their current woes. They are betting on one of UK's richest men -- multi-millionaire businessman Peter Wilkinson about becoming an investor to bail them out.

The 49-year old Yorkshire man Wilkinson with a personal fortune of over £500million thanks to raking in £301m from BSkyB for Sports Internet — a sports betting business. He pocketed another £75m from selling Internet hosting firm Planet Online to Energis. However, Wilkinson's best company Freeserve, makes him his company a household name in the UK.

Elland Road chairman Professor John McKenzie is counting on Wilkinson to share some of his moolah with Leeds. Leeds officials have approached the Internet millionaire, for the club’s rescue. Leeds officials say Wilkinson would want a major role at the club in return for his investment. He is also on the board of more than 20 companies throughout the UK.

“Peter (Wilkinson) is well known at Elland Road because he’s supported the club for years. He is a successful man with a lot of disposable income — the sort Leeds need. And getting him involved could be the answer to all the club’s prayers,” adds an unnamed Leeds official.
