Set Sail for High Seas

“Not since pirates floated on the Spanish Main has so much money been up for grabs on the high seas,” proclaim PartyPoker of their Million III tournament, due to be held March 2004. Forget Pieces of Eight and gold doubloons - having commandeered a seaworthy vessel, they have announced a prize pool of $3.5 million and a first prize guaranteed to exceed $1 million. Shiver me timbers - riches beyond the dreams of avarice.

Any gung-ho buccaneer who fancies a bit of the lovely booty need simply log on to and compete in preliminary tournaments that cost as little as $1 to enter. Those who qualify will receive a $9,000 package, two places on the $1,800 cruise, plus their $7,200 “buy-in” for the event. Nearly three hundred have already qualified through satellites, super satellite and semi-final tournaments, but more than two hundred seats are still in contention.

“After two incredible tournaments in the last couple of years, The Million III will be an even more monumental leap forward,“ said Mike Sexton, executive host and spokesman. “Tripling the prize money makes this the richest event in poker and certainly one of the most competitive. Someone’s going home with a million-dollar payday and lots of folks will win a portion of that huge pot.”
