|The FBI will have access to the financial records of off line casinos and other businesses if the president signs a new bill recently passed by Congress. The Senate approved the Intelligence Authorization bill by simple voice vote, after the House of Representatives passed the bill in a 264 to 163 vote |
The bill would authorize easier access for the FBI in examining the records from businesses when money laundering for terrorists is suspected. The federal authorities would not need the approval of a judge or a grand jury to so decide which off line casino to swoop in on.
Banks, credit unions, and other financial institutions are already subject to the federal government’s arbitrary demands for search. Many critics of the bill argue that it constitutes a breach of the long established legal procedure required for such searches.
