|SportsLine.com Inc, an online provider of sports information, has sold its gambling analysis and consulting business Las Vegas Sports Consultants to a group of Las Vegas investors. The company did not disclose details about the purchase amount. The sold company provides handicapping information and consulting for companies licensed to take bets in Nevada.|
SportsLine manages sites for the National Football League and its 32 teams, and the PGA tour, and also operates CBS.Sportsline.com. It is reported that the sale was done, to be in the good books of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCCA), a strong opponent of gambling on its events.
The NCAA, which is the administrative and governing body for U.S. college and University level sports events, is an antigambling body because of its fears of organized crime, and illegal gambling disturbing the fabric of college games.
The Fort Lauderdale, Florida, based SportsLine, a few months ago similarly sold its gambling enthusiast website, VegasInsider.com, to a British company, to comply with the terms of NCAA. The group of buyers for Las Vegas Sports Consultants includes Nevada lawyer Ellen Whittemore, with her husband and brother.
Viacom Inc. and its CBS television network own about 40 percent of SportsLine's shares.
