|According to new research published by Juniper Research wireless gambling and adult based content could generate revenues in excess of $6.5bn by 2006. The report also adds that this growth is subject to regulations and feasible operating environment for companies.|
The report stresses that safety; security and child protection are critical for growth factors for this nascent industry like wireless gambling.
Secure and reliable payment systems with both micro and macro payment facility, besides tough spam regulations, brand protection and concept selling are important say the analysts.
“A simple lottery type gambling service will have lot of potential. But regulatory issues are important. Wireless gambling services are good revenue sources, but they will be hard to match the revenue scale of regulated lotteries and betting services,” says Paul Skeldon, Senior Analyst at Juniper Research who specializes in mobile entertainment services.
The report pegs that mobile gambling services by 2006 would generate revenues of up to $5.7billion, the money being shared by casinos ($0.9billion); lotteries/competitions ($2.8billion) and the rest by betting at $2billion.
Another trend with strong potential says Juniper would be from peer to peer betting at sports events, and lottery and TV linked competitions to the mobile.
