|Betfair. com has announced a new data licensing agreement with tote betting operators Phumelela - Gold Enterprises. Their joint venture embraces South African horseracing and tote betting. |
Phumelela and Gold Circle will “control and manage all media and information rights emanating from the two companies.”
This will be Betfair’s first international agreement for racing data rights. The British based company has also reportedly agreed to work with the South African Jockey Club to “address any questions of integrity” -- through a Memorandum of Understanding designed to allow access to betting records.
Tim Levene, Betfair’s Commercial Director, said “This is the start of what we believe will be a long and healthy relationship with South African racing. Their product is an important part of our business, and in line with our policy world-wide, we believe they should be paid appropriately for it. We hope that other international racing industries take their lead, and view us as an ally and not a threat.”
