Ferguson writes that entertainment companies would be likely to strike a ’strategic relationship’ with casino operators, rather than acquire them and face the stringent background checks involved in the licensing process.
Marc Falcone, gaming analyst for Bear Stearns, said that the popularity and multimedia capabilities of the online casino industry could serve as an excellent marketing tool for various media companies.
Playboy has been the first major non-industry company to embrace online gambling with the launch of their casino and sportsbook sites. Other companies interested in the market include such prestigious names as Microsoft Corp., Virgin Group, and Viacom/CBS according to Sebastian Sinclair, an Internet gaming analyst for Christansen Capital Advisors.
