Hunt for $162m Lotto Ticket Ends in Dispute

It appears that the hunt for a lost lottery ticket worth $162m has been resolved, but not without a sizable chunk of controversy and litigation. It all began when a Mrs E Battle of Cleveland, Ohio approached lottery authorities claiming that she had purchased the winning ticket, only for fate to cruelly pluck it from her handbag outside the shop. What followed was a mad scramble in the snow by countless Cleveland residents, feverishly hunting the surrounding parking lot for a piece of the prize.

The frenzied scrabbling came to an abrupt end on Tuesday when another Cleveland resident, Rebecca Jemison came forward with the winning numbers, declaring that Mrs Battle’s trumpery claims had prompted her to quit stalling and claim her rightful prize.

Incensed, Mrs Battle vowed to battle to the end, and, despite revelations coming to light on Thursday morning that she has previous fraud convictions, she has appealed to the courts to block the payments. 'My ticket was lost. I do recall all the numbers. They are all somehow family-related,” she told the Associated Press, somewhat unconvincingly. The case continues...
