|The general election in Australia has caused a betting frenzy as voters rush straight from the booths to the bookmakers to bet on the outcome. Prime Minister John Howard is currently the favourite at $1.60 for the win, with coalition leader Kim Beazley at $2.20 with leading online betting agency Centrebet.|
“Well that’s $25,000 in the last 24 hours” said Centrebet’s Gerald Daffy who also said that they company had taken $350,000 in election bets in the last eight months and that he expected Centrebet to hold up to a possible excess of $2 million by the election.
Punters can place bets on more than one election outcome, as well as the proportion of the primary vote for each candidate. There are also odds on all 150 seats.
