|The Australian online bookmaker Centrebet.com has disclosed that an unnamed New Zealand gambler has bet more than AUS$105,000 (£43,490) on 'Lord of the Rings: Return of the King' director Peter Jackson winning best director at the Oscars. |
The Kiwi customer who laid the bet in two separate amounts is reportedly the biggest punter for the Oscars said Centrebet's Mark Worwood. The gambler won AUS$5,250 (£2,170) for his record bet and retains the amount he wagered.
Peter Jackson, the director of the film, was the odds-on favorite to grab the best director award, with Australian online bookmaker Centrebet paying out A$1.00 for every A$20 wagered on Jackson.
The New Zealand gambler was so confident fellow Kiwi Peter Jackson would win Best Director Oscar for his film 'Lord of the Rings The Return of the King', that he didnít even consider other favorites such as Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation), Clint Eastwood (Mystic River) and Fernando Mereilles (City of God).
Centrebet said the gambler first placed a bet of A$50,000 with Centrebet on February 22 for Jackson to win, and then raised it by another $55,000 the day before the Oscars.
