Cup draws gloom for the bookies
By rick
Manchester United and Arsenal were yesterday drawn to play each other in the FA Cup semi-final, negating a big betting final pay day for British bookmakers. While the two arguably largest sides in England have to battle it out in one semi-final the other branch sees Sunderland face either Millwall or Tranmere.

Sunderland and Millwall are both in the 1st Division, one league below both Arsenal and Man Utd, while Tranmere are in the 2nd Division. It is generally accepted within the sports media that the winner of the Premiership clash will then claim the FA Cup, one of the most watched sporting events in the world. However, Sunderland have previously won the very same cup in the 70’s with a side that was expected to be steamrolled by a majestic Leeds side.

Bookmakers were hoping for a top team clash in the final which would have created huge amounts of revenue.
