Sportech, the group that owns Littlewoods Football Pools, today reported a 24% drop in full year profits, despite a 6.5% rise in turnover to a record £207.9 million. Despite the loss in profits, however, Managing Director, George Rushton, claimed that the year had been one of progress and that the company could look forward to a rosy future in the ‘medium to long term’ through new services such as interactive television.

‘Sportech is well positioned to benefit from the increasing popularity of digital viewing and interactive uptake in UK homes,’ said Mr Rushton. ‘The start of our exclusive contract with ITV and launch of Littlewoods Bet Direct on Sky Active positions us at the forefront of the interactive television home gaming and betting arena.’

Chairman David Mathewson added, ‘Sportech is at the vanguard of a brand new entertainment experience and well placed to grow the interactive betting and gaming market.’
