Holotype today signed a deal to extend and expand the features and functions of the interactive TV betting system, which it developed and deployed on the SKY digital satellite platform in New Zealand, in conjunction with SKY and NZRB.
The new features will include Trifectas, Quinellas and EasyBets, which are NZRB products that were identified as “highly desirable” by customers of the interactive television service.
The SKY/NZRB iTV betting service -‘SkyBet’- went live in April 2003 and was immediately adopted by NZRB customers. It has continued to grow and currently turns over more than $500,000 per month through two betting channels (SKY Sport and Trackside). The service can be used through SKY TV digital receivers, by any customer with an NZRB account. Several hundred new users are taking up the service each month.
The service delivers sports betting as well as Racing, Harness and Greyhound betting on the next race to go.
The system can deliver different betting schedules on up to six channels simultaneously.
The high performance application provides racing odds at frequent intervals on the racing channel, to ensure customers have the latest prices.
Holotype Managing Director, Daniel Barton, said, “Satellite broadcast of iTV betting presents unique challenges in ensuring that odds and other race data are as current as possible. There are plenty of ways to place a bet and any new method has to be at least as convenient as other ways, for customers to adopt it. The intensive testing programme we undertook in conjunction with NZRB and SKY focused on the user experience. We believe that the user acceptance we are seeing in NZ proves we have the correct solution, when it comes to ease of use, convenience and performance. The system is now being expanded to include a wider variety of NZRB products, through what is becoming a familiar, reliable and cost effective channel”.
