|UK betting exchanges punters and prospective UK casino operators may be disappointed by the UK Gambling Bill. Details of the UK Gambling Bill will be made public on Wednesday, and after deliberations by MPs, the bill is thought to have been watered down somewhat, with restrictions on how many casinos can be built, as well as how big they can be built. One source quoted by the Mail on Sunday described the Bill as “A knee in the groin for casinos”. |
Some betting exchange punters are also likely to find the contents of the bill less than thrilling, with the Bill expected to include taxation of “professional” punters, i.e., those who lay bets over a set limit per month via the exchanges.
As with most things legislative, delays are expected. Insiders think the joint scrutiny committee which reviewed the bill is likely to make many recommendations, which could result in the passage of the Bill into law being delayed until 2006.
