|Bart Maves, MPP for Niagara Falls and Tim Hudak, MPP for Erie-Lincoln, were on hand as construction for the new Casino Niagara officially got underway. Maves and Hudak were also joined by Ron D. Barbaro, Chair and CEO of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, and Nick Pritzker, Chairman and CEO of Hyatt Development Corporation.|
Hudak commented: “It has been a tough time for the tourism industry in the region, but I’m confident that with the start of construction for the casino it will serve as a catalyst for getting the tourism industry back on its feet again. Barbaro added, “The start of construction will create a new wave of economic momentum in the community as we prepare to award $100-125 million in contracts for mechanical, electrical and concrete work resulting in an immediate ripple effect in the Niagara Region.”
“I am extremely pleased that so many Niagara residents have had the opportunity to participate in the ground-breaking and start of construction for the new Casino Niagara Complex,” said Maves. “This is a tremendous boost to the Niagara economy and people should realize that the estimated investment in the new Casino Niagara Complex is approximately the equivalent of building three new Air Canada Centers.”
The Niagara Falls Casino/Gateway Project is part of a larger vision to revitalize the Niagara Falls region by transforming it into a unique, year-round tourist destination. The Casino complex will contain 3,000 slot machines and 150 table games, a 368-room Hyatt hotel, extensive meeting and exhibition space, a world-class retail facility, restaurants and entertainment venues.
