Beadman sues TAB over betting exchange ad
By paul
Australian champion jockey Darren Beadman is suing TAB Ltd, the australian bookmaker, claiming the TAB defamed him in ads placed in national newspapers.

TAB Ltd placed ads in The Australian Financial Review and The Australian with the question: 'Will Darren Beadman jump off Lonhro?'

Below that line the ad says 'Ask for a price with internet betting exchanges,” adding: 'TAB calls on Australia to ban betting exchanges.'

The ads appeared two days after Beadman’s mount Lonhro controversially lost in his swansong in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick on April 17.

'I have taken legal advice and have commenced proceedings against the NSW TAB,' Beadman said. 'I do not wish to say any more at this point.'

Beadman did not know his name would be used in the ad campaign, which publicises its opposition to offshore betting exchanges getting betting licences in Australia.

UK- based Betfair, the industry leading betting exchange, wants to open for business in Australia.
