|Gov. George Pataki and legislative leaders are considering reviewing legislation in Albany to relax gambling laws, but could not reach a decision yesterday after discussing the issue.|
The proposals include authorising up to six new casinos (three in western New York and three in the Catskills) and joining the multistage Powerball lottery. Video lottery terminals would also be allowed at racetracks.
These gambling activities could generate as much as $1 billion to help give the city a much needed boost after the economic crisis caused by the after effects of events on Sept 11th.
Senate Majority Leader Bruno, R-Rensselaer County said in an interview with WROW-AM radio, “There’s no other way that I know of presently that we’re going to suitably fund education and economic development.”
