Gambling Addict sells daughter to pay debts
By paul
A South Asian man origin sold his 15-year-old daughter for £15,000 to pay gambling debts he incurred at London casinos. UK police said they are investigating after the girl contacted them. She claimed to have been sold to an older man who is a friend of the family.

The plan was reportedly for the girl to join her husband-to-be, who lives in Bangladesh. The man would then apply for British citizenship. The girl's father, who cannot be named, is said to be in his forties and originally from Bangladesh, although he is also a British citizen. Police say the father cannot be named because it was unclear if the deal constituted a criminal offence under UK law.

In Britain, it is not a crime for a mother or father to accept a dowry – a payment for a daughter or son’s hand in marriage.

The father admitted to having gambled away all his savings, mainly on casino roulette and card games. After an initial winning streak and exhausting his savings, he ended up blowing borrowed money.
