|A new Belgian office has just been opened by iGGBA- the interactive Gaming, Gambling and Betting Association. The reason behind the opening is to help ensure that the EU is well represented in discussions on internet or mobile gambling issues. Discussions between the iGGBA and European organisations have already started, with the common aim to cover and understand many of the issues and regulations that affect this industry.|
The chairman of the iGGBA has issued the following statement explaining the new location: 'This office will help extend the good work that the Association has been doing in the UK and provide a truly EU-wide remit for the remote gambling industry. With the EU Services Directive and previous legislation on e-commerce and money laundering, the time is right for the industry to speak regularly with EU officials'.
The talks that have taken place so far have included discussions with the European Commission, with further meetings planned in the near future. The iGGBA have been keen to communicate their self-devised Codes of Practice and regulations, and hope to work more closely with a range of EU institutions thanks to their new physical presence in Brussels.
