|The largest gambling expansion plan in the History of the state was signed into law yesterday by New York Gov. George Pataki. The action means that six new casinos will be opening, three in Western New York and three in the Catskills. Video betting terminals will also be installed at racetracks, and New York will be joining the multi-state Powerball lottery.|
New York could see the first fruits of the law as early as this fall, when the Seneca Indian Nation opens a temporary casino in the Niagara Falls Convention Centre.
The law is not without itís detractors however, and it is likely that it will be challenged in court, possibly by famous businessman Donald Trump, who owns a casino in Atlantic City.
